Based on several film screenings, discussion with the film director,
plus conversations among scientists, educators, artists and students:

Recommendations for Filmmakers and Artists:

We strongly encourage filmmakers to work with climate scientists when producing motion pictures on climate change. Similarly, for artists in other genre:

Highly respected and very supportive scientists are available to serve as advisors for your work.

Regrettable problems when scientists are not consulted

The Age of Stupid, alas, serves somewhat as a negative example in this regard. Corners were cut in assuring the science is strong. Of most concern are the statements that humanity is likely to go extinct by 2055 due to climate change. More troubling is that this assessment is falsely attributed to mainstream science.

The main science consult in the making of The Age of Stupid was Mark Lynus -- author, as well as childhood friend of the director. Assertions he has made guided the film's science. We would recommend that artists be sure to consult with recognized scientists, and preferably more than one, to get adequate advice.

Much of the film is strong, including in how it represents science. With the help of climate scientists, filmmakers can avoid major lapses.

Who is Available:

Dr. Stephen Schneider himself is a marvelous science advisor for film television and other forms of media and arts. Examples

If you need help in locating scientists who would make excellent consultants, you are welcome to write us at ClimateChangeEducation.Org

How We Arrived at our Assessment of The Age of Stupid

ClimateChangeEducation.org followed this film closely. We:

== Conducted an in depth study of the film, going over: statements, interviews, videos, promotional materials, and commentary on the making of the film.

== Brought together a diverse panel to view and comment on the film – at the San Francisco International Film Festival (Who was there.) Discussions were held after the screenings for reactions.

== Screened the finished film several times. Our volunteers are scientists, educators, students, artists, as well as other specialists in climate change education.

== Took careful note of statements during the Q&A after the screenings.

== Corresponded with The Age of Stupid team.

== Spoke in person with film director Franny Armstrong on the subject of scientific accuracy, as well as critiques and advice by IPCC scientists. We found that there wasn’t much interest in connecting with climate scientists, getting their help, or hearing what they thought of the film.
